Frequently Asked Questions
How is the electricity bill calculated in Pakistan?
NEPRA uses a slab-based tariff. Your units determine which slab applies. DISCOs then add FC surcharge, 17% GST, income tax on electricity, and a TV licence fee. Protected consumers (up to 100 units/month) pay a subsidised fixed rate.
Which DISCO covers my area?
LESCO → Lahore | MEPCO → Multan/central Punjab | FESCO → Faisalabad | GEPCO → Gujranwala | IESCO → Islamabad/Rawalpindi | PESCO → KPK | HESCO → Hyderabad | QESCO → Quetta/Balochistan | K-Electric → Karachi.
What are NEPRA tariff slabs for 2025-26?
Residential slabs (approx.): 0–100 units (protected) PKR 7.74/unit; 0–200 units PKR 30.65/unit; 201–300 units PKR 35.14/unit; 301–700 units PKR 39.45/unit; above 700 units PKR 43.94/unit. Commercial and industrial rates differ by DISCO.
How can I reduce my electricity bill?
Stay below 200 units/month (higher slabs re-bill all units at the higher rate). Use inverter ACs (40–60% more efficient). Switch all lighting to LED. Run heavy appliances (washing machine, iron) in the morning or evening. Consider net-metered rooftop solar.
What is the FC surcharge?
The Fuel Cost Adjustment (FC) is a variable monthly charge NEPRA approves to compensate DISCOs for fluctuating fuel prices. It appears as a separate line on your bill and varies month to month.
